Online dating safety: how to meet someone safely
Most dates are just dates. But meeting someone new carries real risk, so play every hand safely.
Before you meet
- Chat in the app first. On SuiteFace your phone number stays hidden until you both call a Win.
- Video chat if you're unsure someone is who they say.
- Look them up. A quick search of their name and photos can catch a fake profile.
- Prefer verified profiles. Look for an ID-verified badge and photos taken live.
On the date
- Meet in a busy public place. Coffee, a restaurant, a park, a mall, a community event, or a service at a place of worship.
- Tell someone you trust where you're going and when you'll be home. Share your live location.
- Get yourself there and back. Drive yourself or book your own ride.
- Watch your drink, and know your limits.
- Leave anytime. Consent can be withdrawn at any moment.
Spot romance scams
Never send money, gift cards, crypto or financial details to someone you haven't known well, in person, for a long time. Report anyone who asks.

Questions
Where should I meet someone from a dating app?
Somewhere busy and public: a coffee shop, restaurant, park, mall, community event or place of worship. Never a home, hotel room, car, or anywhere isolated for a first date.
How do I spot a romance scam?
Red flags include refusing to video chat, pushing to move off the app, stories that don't add up, and any request for money, gift cards, or crypto. Never send money to someone you haven't known well in person.
What should I do if I feel unsafe on a date?
Leave. You don't owe anyone your time. If you're in danger, call 911. Afterward, report the person in the app.
